Tips on Saving Money and the Planet While Driving
With the prices of gas increasing so fast, and the planet being in the shape that it is, saving money and fuel while driving is a very good idea. Here are a few tips on how to save some money while driving green.
1. Around 20% of the fuel consumed goes to getting over the resistance of the tires. That’s why quality tires are a must. Instead of buying whatever is recommended by the car dealer or mechanic, go on the Internet and do some research. Find the best tires you can afford and get them. Even if they’re a little more expensive, in the long run you will save money.
2. Decrease the load in the car. If there are things in your car that don’t need to be there, take them out. Don’t keep the car heavy if it doesn’t need to be. Of course, there is always the option of carpooling if you want to save the planet. If you do drive your own car, keep it light. You save money this way.
3. If you stop the car for more than a minute, turn off the engine. When the engine is restarted, it consumes as much gas as it would if it was left running for a minute, so anything over that minute is fuel you save.
Other things that you can do to save some money when you drive include driving in a way that doesn’t wear down the car. Driving less is a great way to do just that. If you want to go somewhere, and it would take you only 10-20 minutes on foot, walking might be a good idea. Or, you can buy a hybrid car, that has cheaper prices by the day. Ultimately, saving money is up to you, and as you can see there are a lot of things you can do about it.
